Beastie Boys Trivia
  • Beastie stood for Boys Entering Anarchistic States Towards Inner Excellence.
  • Originally started out playing hardcore punk, but switched to hip-hop in 1984.
  • In 1983, John Berry left the group (later forming Thwig) and was replaced by Horovitz who had previously played in punk band The Young and the Useless.
  • They invented the genre of music known as "rockrap".
  • In 1984, they gave new meaning to the term "ill". They called their album of '84 "Licensed to Ill" and used "ill" in place of "cool".
