- Long time friend and frequent collaborator Sam Raimi originally wanted him to play the lead role in Darkman (1990) but the producers refused to cast him because they didn't think he could handle it. He appears at the end of the film as "the Final Schemp".
- The title of his autobiography is, "If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B-Movie Actor".
- Recorded a full length commentary for Bubba Ho-Tep in character as Elvis.
- In Fargo and Intolerable Cruelty, he is uncredited for playing soap actors.
- Screen-tested for the lead role in The Phantom (1996).
